I am not perfect

five star excellence

I am not perfect, so I try to be.

Then I realised that I try to be perfect out of fear; the fear that I am not enough, and I have to be perfect to be enough.

I am driven by that fear to double check everything and get everything right – no mistakes.

I am driven by that fear not to try anything I might get wrong – no mistakes.

And that can be paralysing and very unproductive.

And that is definitely not perfect!

So instead of perfection, what should I strive for?

Try excellence on for size. It seems more fluid, more open to interpretation, more forgiving of mistakes and therefore more attainable, and even more friendly. I would rather hang out with someone who is excellent than with someone who is perfect.

Think about it.

My best wishes, Paul
