What do you think you are not?

“It’s not what we are that holds us back, but what we think we are not.” Dennis Waitley

So, what do you think you are not? Here is how to find out.

Pick a goal you’ve been circling for a while, then finish this sentence:

“I want to be/do/have [goal], but I’m not __________.”

What popped into your mind?

Whatever word or phrase jumps up is the belief that’s quietly running the show.

Is that belief a fact, or just a story you’ve repeated so often it feels like truth?

Now try it for another goal.

You probably have lots of ‘evidence’ you can point to which justifies your thinking, because that’s what we do. We are selective evidence gatherers.

But what would a friend say? Do they see the same limitation in you?

Go on. Ask them with an open mind and notice your reaction.

If your first instinct is to argue, defend or start a sentence with “But…”, you’ve just uncovered something about yourself that you may need to change if you really want that goal.

Pick one goal. Ask one person for honest feedback. Then sit with the answer instead of debating it.

The shift starts there.

My best wishes, Paul
