How do you use a lamp-post?

Lamp post and star light

I was amused by this quote, especially in the light of current world events and the way politicians are reacting.

“Politicians use statistics in the same way that a drunk uses lamp-posts – for support rather than illumination.” Andrew Land

We gather statistics and data as we work. Indeed, sometimes our work is gathering data.

How do you use the data? To justify a position, to stand your ground against ‘The enemy’, to maintain the status quo, to catch people out, or to illuminate choices and new directions to travel.

Stop and think for a moment…

What data do you handle?

What is it used for?

How can you use it to illuminate and improve what you do?

My best wishes, Paul
